Dropping Like A Stone

Falling apart like a castle of cards
I was beating the dark back while sparring with god
Set flame to flesh, but it was me who knew best
That damn, for straws I was grasping
Didn’t know where, but I tried to head there
See living, it’s hard, and I just didn’t dare
‘Til she walked my way caught my gaze
And damn, for air I was gasping

It took just a word, right then it was done
She smiled real bright, but it was her eyes that won
She asked, “Did you see that movie Once?
Because you remind me of him you know.”
But that was long ago
And who knows, there could’ve been more

She said no – this broken heart has somewhere else to go
There’s nothing here for me much less for you
I’m moving on so you can move along
Well good lord
Holding on to nothing I’m dropping like a stone
It would have never worked out anyway, I know
I’m moving on so you can move along

In a vision of something you couldn’t pin down
That felt just as strange as a king in a bow
That felt just as right as the sun giving light
To the good and the bad in Creation
And for all the brains people got in their heads
And for all the signs we can see up ahead
We’ll always ignore what we know is in store
And pray for not pain but elation

Who can find grace in a life despised?
In a world so broken down we can breathe no sighs?
The tears that we’ve got in our eyes; tell us we are still alive
To fight on through god’s show
But are we meant to live alone?
I can’t help thinking so

Since she said no – this broken heart has somewhere else to go
There’s nothing here for me much less for you
I’m moving on so you can move along
Well good lord
Holding on to nothing I’m dropping like a stone
It would have never worked out anyway, I know
I’m moving on so you can move along
